NEC Aims 30% Increase in Productivity of Japanese PC Plant

NEC
plans to boost productivity of the company's Yonezawa PC plant by 30%,
according to a November 18, 2010 report by Nikkei. The Yonezawa plant is
located in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan and is estimated to produce 10,000 PCs
per day. It is reported that NEC plans to bring previously outsourced LCD
(Liquid Crystal Display) assembly work back to the Yonezawa plant, aiming to
cut subcontracting costs by 2% to 3%. NEC is also projected to introduce
automation mechanism to reduce the number of workers working at PC production
lines. The new arrangement is expected to be tested on three or so production lines
and be extended to 10 production lines this fiscal year.
