Intel to Deepen Cooperation Ties with Taiwan's Government, Industry, Education Sector

CEO Paul Otellini announced on October 28, 2010 that Intel plans to cooperate
with Taiwan's MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) on cloud computing business,
develop industry standards of cloud computing with Chunghwa Telecom, launch programs
for talent cultivation with Taiwan's Ministry of Education, and establish a research
center with Taiwan's NSC (National Science Council), according to the China
Times of Taiwan. The announcement was made at a press conference held in Taipei
during Otellini's visit to Taiwan. Chunghwa Telecom, a major telecom operator
in Taiwan, also announced that the company will join the Open Data Center
Alliance launched by Intel and sign a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with
Intel for cloud computing team-up. It is reported that a research center will
be set up by Intel and NSC together, and operation of the center is slated to
begin by the end of 2010. Intel and NSC are projected to invest NT$750 million
(US$24.5 million; US$1= NT$30.6) jointly in the research center over the next three
to five years.
