Taiwanese
IC designer MediaTek announced on October 25, 2010 that the company will add US$75
million to its Chinese subsidiary, according to the Economic Daily News of
Taiwan. It is estimated that MediaTek has already injected a total of US$279
million into its subsidiary in China so far this year. It is reported that
MediaTek plans to invest another US$10 million this year and 500 million RMB
(US$74.6 million; US$1=6.7 RMB) over the next five years in chipset R&D for
mobile phones.

related news, MediaTek's new subsidiary located in Chengdu, China will start
operation in November 2010, according to the same source. The new Chengdu
subsidiary, set up in July this year, is projected to have a workforce of over
150 employees by 2011.
