TI Opens First Eight-Inch Fab in China

TI announced on October 14, 2010 the opening of the
company's first eight-inch wafer fab in China acquired from Cension, according
to a press release by TI. Financial terms of the deal are yet to be disclosed. It
is reported that the new facility, located in the Chengdu Hi-tech Zone, hires
700 employees and will focus on producing analog chips. The acquisition
includes one 12,000-square-foot fab and one 134,000-square-foot fab. It is
estimated that the former fab will be able to increase TI's annual revenue by
US$1 billion. The latter fab is projected to be reserved for future production
expansion, according to the press release.
