Japanese
Elpida and Sharp will cooperate on the development and commercialization of ReRAM
(Resistive Random Access Memory) chip, according to an October 12, 2010 report
by the Nikkei Business Daily. It is reported that ReRAM is able to use less
power and write data 10,000 times faster than NAND flash memory. The National
Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, the University of
Tokyo, and other chip equipment manufacturers are projected to join the
alliance for ReRAM development as well. It is expected that Elpida will likely
to take care of ReRAM mass production, starting from 2013 the earliest.
Hynix
and HP also announced last month that the two companies have entered into
an agreement to jointly develop and commercialize the memristor technology
in ReRM over the next three years.
