China Unicom to Launch 3G iPad in Late-October at the Earliest

On the heels of the launch of Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity) Apple iPad in China on September 17, China Unicom is expected to release 3G iPad in late-October 2010 at the earliest, with a price tag expected to be similar to iPhone 4, the Sina Tech News reported on October 9. China Unicom stated that the company already submitted applications in a bid to obtain the network access license for 3G iPad and the result is projected to be released two weeks later. Should the 3G iPad obtain the license as planned, China Unicom will unveil the launch schedule soon, according to the same source. Further details, however, were not yet disclosed. Of all Wi-Fi iPads available in the market since September 17, 2010, Wi-Fi iPads with a 16G of flash memory are priced at 3,988 RMB (US$604.2; US$1= 6.6 RMB) while 32G Wi-Fi Pads with a 32G of memory are retailed at 4,788 RMB (US$725.4).
