Compal to Invest US$500 Mln in Setting Up New Manufacturing Base in Chengdu, China

Taiwanese notebook PC manufacturer Compal Electronics has signed a framework agreement with Chengdu local government for establishing a manufacturing base in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, located in western China, according to a September 29, 2010 report by the United Daily News of Taiwan. It is reported that Compal will invest more than US$500 million in establishing the new production base, and the base is expected to engage in manufacturing notebook PCs, all-in-one PCs, tablet PCs, monitors, and TVs. Production of the new base is slated for April 2011. Compal projects that the new production site is able to manufacture 10 million units of notebook PCs by the end of 2011 and 20 million units by 2013.
