IBM to Expand R&D Investment in Taiwan

IBM
announced on September 16, 2010 that the company will maintain its R&D
investment spending this year and increase the number of R&D staff by year
end in its Taiwan unit, according to the Economic Daily News of Taiwan. It is
reported that IBM established the first R&D center in Taiwan in 1999, and
the company has since been injecting approximately NT$1 billion (US$31.5
million; US$1=NT$31.7) in the Taiwanese R&D unit every year. Currently, IBM
employs nearly 2000 people in Taiwan, and the company is projected to increase the
number of R&D staff to 1000 people, up from the current 800.
