NTT DoCoMo to Provide TV Broadcasts for Mobile Phone Users in Japan
September 10, 2010
A Japanese government
advisory panel decided on September 8, 2010 to grant mobile TV broadcasting
license to NTT DoCoMo, according to Nikkei. Both Japanese telecom giants KDDI
and DoCoMo have engaged in the competition for providing mobile broadcasting
service for the country. DoCoMo is projected to team up with several major TV
and radio broadcasters for delivering multimedia content, such as TV shows,
over a new platform to mobile devices. The new platform is reported to be
developed by DoCoMo itself, while the platform that KDDI proposed is said to be
developed by US Qualcomm. The new mobile broadcasting service is slated to
begin in the sprint of 2012.
