Foxconn plans to add approximately 400,000 workers to its China factories
within one year and build new factories in inland provinces, according to an
August 18, 2010 report by Bloomberg. The company is expected to adjust its
hiring plan and augment its work force to as many as 1.2 million to 1.3 million
in China. Currently, more than half of Foxconn's Chinese workers are concentrated
in the coastal city of Shenzhen, and Foxconn aims to cut the work force there
by two-thirds over five years. Foxconn estimates that around 20% of its Chinese
workers are from the inland province Henan. It is reported that Foxconn will therefore
move production in Shenzhen to Henan and Sichuan, another inland province, as the
two inland provinces are closer to its workers' families and friends. It is
expected that Foxconn's facilities in Shenzhen will be converted into R&D,
product testing, and new energy technology centers.
