Foxconn's New Mobile Phone Production Plant in Inland China to Begin Construction in August 20

Foxconn's new mobile phone production line, which is located at premises that the company temporarily rented from the Zhengzhou municipal government (Henan Province), began production on August 2, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported on August 3. Under the agreement signed between Foxconn and the municipal government, this US$100 million production line owned by Foxconn's subsidiary Futaihua Precision Electronics (Zhengzhou) will mainly produce iPhones, according to the same source. As part of it plan to migrate its production facilities to inland China, a permanent plant will kick off construction on August 20, 2010, at a site only several kilometers away from the existing rented premises and is slated to begin production one year later, with an expected daily capacity of 200,000 iPhones. According to Taiwan's Commercial Times, a total of 544 employees recruited from Foxconn's Shenzhen plant were already on board and an additional of 300 employees from Henan would join later on August 3.
