LG Uplus, Microsoft Join Hands for Cloud Computing Services in Korea

LG Uplus and Microsoft jointly announced on July 29 that they entered into a strategic agreement, whereby they will jointly launch cloud computing services, to serve small- and medium-sized enterprises in Korea, the Korea Herald reported on July 29. Pursuant to the agreement, LG Uplus is allowed to access Microsoft's software platforms and cloud services, delivering integrated services across the PC, TV, and mobile phone arenas to consumers, while leveraging LG Uplus' network services, according to the same source. Through the alliance, the two companies aim to deliver a wide range of next-generation services featuring simple-to-install-and-use and low maintenance advantages.

 

Initially, LG Uplus and Microsoft will jointly establish a SaaS (Software as a Service) incubation center, which is set to begin operations in September 2010 and later they plan to launch and sell the SaaS platform and business models to other countries such as Indonesia, China, and those in Southeast Asia.
