ON Semiconductor to Purchase Sanyo Semiconductor

Electric, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Panasonic, plans to sell itsemiconductor unit, Sanyo Semiconductor, to US-based
ON Semiconductor, according to a June 2 report by Kyodo News of Japan. Sanyo
Semiconductor manufactures analog IC for audiovisual products, and ON
Semiconductor is an analog and mixed signal IC manufacturer which was spun off
from Motorola in 1999. The two companies are currently discussing the value of
the deal and it is reported that ON Semiconductor will pay around 20 billion
Yen (US$220 million; US$1=87.9 Yen) to 30 billion Yen (US$350 million) for this
new semiconductor unit. It is expected that the deal will be finalized before
the end of July 2010.
