AUO Plans Solar Cell Plant in Central Taiwan
June 25, 2010
AUO recently adjusted its investment plan and announced the construction of a solar cell factory in the CTSP (Central Taiwan Science Park), according to a news report on June 23, 2010 by Economic Daily News of Taiwan. AUO plans to invest NT$73 billion (US$2.3 billion; US$1=NT$32) in building the new plant. Construction is scheduled to start by the end of 2011, according to the same source.

Earlier this June, TSMC also announced that it will build a solar cell plant in the CTSP to develop thin-film solar photovoltaic technology together with US-based Stion. AUO is the second Taiwanese company in a row that announced plans to move deeper into the solar business, and the company expects its investments in the solar business will create more than 10% of its consolidated revenue by 2011 and 2012.
