Thai telecom regulator NTC (National Telecommunications
Commission) plans to recall radio frequency bands unused by the current holders
and release them for use in broadband services such as WiMAX and LTE (Long Term
Evolution), according to a June 10 Bangkok Post report.
In Thailand, the unutilized 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz
bands are presently held by TOT, CAT Telecom, and various government agencies.
The NTC is mulling relocating 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz spectrum for application in
WiMAX and LTE services, and each provider is expected to obtain a maximum of
30MHz. Detailed plans, however, have not been formulated, and the NTC expects
to announce further details at a public hearing in July.
