June 04, 2010
According to a Financial Times report on May 31,
2010, Korean DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) chips maker Hynix said that it
plans to raise its capital expenditure by one-third to 3.05 trillion Won
(US$2.5 billion; US$1=1,216.54 Won) in response to the recovery of the global
ICT industry. In late March 2010, Hynix projected its expense for this year
would be around 2.3 trillion Won (US$ 1.9 billion). In 2009, Hynix recorded a
capital expenditure of one trillion Won (US$ 820 million). The move by Hynix to
increase its 2010 spending came two weeks after Samsung Electronics doubled its
semiconductor investment for 2010 to 11 trillion Won (US$9.02 billion). In May,
Japan's Toshiba also unveiled its plan to increase capital spending in its chip
and infrastructure businesses.
