Taiwan's Asus announced that several of the
company's notebook and netbook PC products for the North American market will
have Kindle for PC preinstalled, the Economic Daily News of Taiwan reported on
May 31, 2010. Kindle for PC was released in November 2009 by Amazon, and it is an
e-reader application designed especially for PC, which provides access to the 540,000
e-book titles provided by the Kindle Store. Asus is the first PC vendor to have
this application preinstalled on their devices.
In addition, Asus unveiled a new series of
e-reader and tablet PC products, dubbed Eee Tablet and Eee Pad, respectively,
on May 31. Eee Tablet is as an e-reader with eight-inch monochrome screen, and Eee
Pad is a touchscreen tablet PC operating on Microsoft's Windows 7, according to
the Economic Daily News.
