China Telecom Launches Own-branded 3G Tablet PC

In the wake of a recent announcement made by China Telecom's CEO Wang Xiaochu that the company would assess the market response toward Apple iPad before entering talks with Apple on selling iPad in China, Chinese telecom operator announced on May 27 the rollout of its first 3G tablet PC, dubbed the LifePad, with an aim to boost its 3G users, the Sohu IT News reported on May 27. Manufactured by China's Mastone Communication & Electrical Development Co., the LifePad is slated to hit the market in late June, 2010, with an expected price tag of 4,980 RMB (US$732.4; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) according to the same source. With a 7-inch resistive display, the LifePad features Google's Android platform, EVDO (Evolution-Data Only), Wi-Fi (Wireless-Fidelity), Bluetooth, and built-in GPS (Global Positioning System), supporting many business and entertainment applications such as 3G applications provided by China Telecom's eSurfing Space.
