- Korea's SK Telecom said on May 27 that it plans
to spend US$100 million on acquiring a 25% stake in Malaysian WiMAX carrier
Packet One Networks, the Chosun Ilbo reported. The plan, expected to pave the
path for SK Telecom's Southeast Asian expansion, has been approved by the
company's board of directors. The two companies are expected to sign a formal
deal in June 2010.
- Taiwanese WiMAX equipment provider Gemtek said
that it has developed a mobile WiMAX CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) for deployment
in Indian carrier BSNL's WiMAX network, according to a May 17 Stock Watch news report.
Dubbed WIXS-181, Gemtek's new outdoor WiMAX CPE adopts Sequans' WiMAX chip,
which incorporates baseband and triple-band RF (Radio Frequency). Developed
specifically for BSNL, the WIXS-181 operates at the 2.5GHz band. BSNL's WiMAX
network is projected to include 7,000 base stations across India, according to
the Stock Watch report.
