Samsung to Expand Investment for Memory Chips in 2010 and 2011

Korean Samsung is projected to spend a total of 19.3 trillion Won (US$17.3 billion; US$1 = 1,115 Won) on memory chip production during the period 2010-2011, Reuters reported on April 30, citing a Korea's local newspaper. Of the total investment amount, 8.3 trillion Won (US$7.4 billion) of which will be spent in 2010, and 11 trillion Won (US$9.9 billion) in 2011. According to Reuters, the company has begun purchasing equipment for its chip expansion plan. Samsung, however, was not immediate available for comment.
