China to Commercially Launch CMMB Mobile TV Service on May 1, 2010

CBC (China Broadcasting Corporation), China's state-owned operator of mobile TV based on China's indigenous mobile TV technology called CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting), announced on April 18 that the company will commercially kick off the CMMB mobile TV service under the brand name of Jingcai on May 1, 2010, instead of July 2010 as originally planned, the Sina News reported on April 19. By subscribing to the service, users can access domestic and international financial information and navigation services. To date, basic CMMB coverage has included 310 cities. The first batch of cities to offer CMMB mobile TV services include Beijing, Shanghai, Qingdao, Zhengzhou, Guangzhou, Kunming, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Shenyang, and Tianjin, according to the same source.
