Walton to Buy HannStar's Kaohsiung LCM Plant for DDR3 Capacity Expansion
April 18, 2010
Taiwanese memory packaging and testing service provider Walton Advanced Engineering said on March 30 that it will buy an unused LCM (Liquid Crystal Display Module) plant from HannStar Display, Taiwan's Central News Agency reported. The plant is located in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, and covers an area of 15,775 pings (52,152 square meters; 1 ping=3.306 square meters). The building and the property will be transferred from HannStar to Walton in a deal valued at NT$415.0 million (US$13.2 million; US$1=NT$31.4). Walton plans to convert this LCM plant into a DDR3 (Double Data Rate 3rd Generation) production facility. Production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010, with a projected output of 10 million units in the initial phase.
