providers Pegatron and Hon Hai Precision Industry are expected to manufacture
Apple's new iPhones, according to reports by the Wall Street Journal and Reuters
on March 30. According to the Reuters report, Apple is working on a new version
of iPhone based on the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) standard for US
mobile operator Verizon Wireless. The CDMA iPhone is slated for shipment next
year and is scheduled to move into mass production by Pegatron in September
this year.
Meanwhile, it is also reported that Apple will
release an upgraded version of the current GSM (Global System for Mobile
Communications) iPhone this summer. The new GSM iPhone is expected to be
slimmer and come in a faster processor. Hon Hai, which has manufactured Apple's
previous iPhones, is currently engaged in the production of the new GSM version,
according to the Wall Street Journal report.
