Toshiba to Add Fifth NAND Flash Memory Fab in Yokkaichi, Japan
March 25, 2010
Toshiba announced on March 23 that it will add a fifth NAND flash memory production facility at its Yokkaichi complex in central Japan, Reuters reported. The project was first floated in 2008 but was later shelved due to the recession of the global memory industry. Construction on the new fab is expected to begin in July 2010, with completion slated for spring 2011. Details regarding investment amount and production capacity have not been decided, but it is reported that the scale of the new facility will be on a par with Toshiba's existing Fab 4 in Yokkaichi.
