Sony, LG Announce Separate Plans for 3D LCD TV Launch
March 12, 2010
Sony plans to sell 3D TV models in Japan and the overseas market beginning from June 10, 2010, with an aim to boost the share of its 3D TV models to reach approximately 10% of its total LCD TV (Liquid Crystal Display Television) products sold in Japan in the fiscal year 2011, which runs from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011, Reuters reported on March 9. Including two pairs of 3D glasses, Sony's 3D TV - with a screen size of 46-inches and a price tag of around 350,000 Yen (US$3863.1; US$ = 90.6 Yen) - is projected to hit the market around June 2010. Sony stated that the launch of 3D TVs will help the company to beef up its current business operations, including FPD (Flat Panel Display) TVs, digital cameras, and Blu-ray DVD players. Meanwhile, Samsung began selling 3D TVs in Korea in February 2010 and is projected for global launch some time in March 2010.

Meanwhile, Korean LG Electronics announced on March 9 that the company entered into a cooperation agreement with Valuable Group, an India-based media and technology company, the Yonhap News Agency reported on March 9. Pursuant to the agreement, they will collaborate to launch 3D LCD TVs with a 47-inch screen size in India, marking LG's foray into the Indian market. The model, to be supplied to Valuable Group, was initially launched in Korea in August 2009, according again to the Yonhap News Agency.
