Corning to Expand Investments and Employment in China

US LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) glass manufacturer Corning plans to boost the company's scale of investments and employment in China, the Wall Street Journal reported on February 5. Corning's China expansion plan includes the establishment of the company's first glass-melting plant in the country. Potentially slated for this year, construction of the new facility is projected to involve a total spending of US$400 million to US$700 million. In addition, Corning expects to augment its staff in China, although the company did not specify the exact number or schedule. The company's global work force is estimated to top 23,000 at present.
