AUO to Acquire FED Assets from Sony Venture Field Emission Technologies

Taiwanese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel manufacturer AUO announced on January 20 that it has signed an agreement with Field Emission Technologies for the purchase of FED (Field Emission Display) assets and technology, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported. AUO has spent approximately 1.2 billion Yen (US$13.3 million; US$1=89.9 Yen) on acquiring patents, know-how, inventions, and equipment related to FED technology and material from the company. Based in Japan, Field Emission Technologies is 39.8% owned by Sony and engages in the manufacturing of nano-Spindt FED, which features fast response time as well as high efficiency, brightness, and contrast.
