China's Konka Starts LCD Module Production at Kunshan Base

Chinese LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TV manufacturer Konka Group began LCD module production at its Kunshan base in Jiangsu Province on December 10, Commercial Times of Taiwan reported. With an investment of 886 million RMB (US$130.3 million; US$1=6.8 RMB), Konka began construction on the Kunshan base on February 28, 2009, planning to construct four LCD module production lines and four module-TV hybrid production lines altogether. The four lines having moved into production in the first phase are dedicated to the manufacturing of 55-inch LCD modules. With the completion of the four hybrid lines in 2010, it is estimated that Konka will reach a production capacity of 8.2 million LCD modules and 4.1 million TVs per year at the Kunshan base, with annual production value projected at 12.8 billion RMB (US$1.9 billion).
