Toppan Printing, Casio to Start OLED Venture in 2010
November 29, 2009
Japan's Toppan Printing and Casio Computer have reached agreement on setting up an OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) manufacturing joint venture, EE Times reported on November 11. Combining Casio's small- and medium-size TFT-LCD (Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) know-how and facilities and Toppan's printing fabrication technologies, this as yet unnamed venture is slated for launch on April 1, 2010. Casio is expected to inject its entire small- and medium-size TFT-LCD and OLED facilities and personnel into this new company, which is projected to incorporate Casio's wholly-owned subsidiary Kochi Casio, too. After the formation of the new company, Casio plans to transfer an 80% stake to Toppan Printing and the transaction is scheduled to take effect on the target date of April 10, 2010. It is estimated that the venture will be capitalized at 400 million Yen (US$4.6 million; US$1=86.7 Yen).
