3G Development in China November 2-8

- Nokia recently revealed its first mobile phone model based on China's homegrown TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) technology, the China Daily News reported on November 8. This phone, codenamed Nokia 6788, is expected to hit the market by year-end 2009 but the price tag is yet to be disclosed. Nokia stated that the company plans to launch more TD-SCDMA phones in the near future. To date, aside from the Nokia 6788, Nokia has launched 16 mobile phones based on 3G technologies in China so far. Meanwhile, China Mobile reiterated that its TD-SCDMA services will be available in over 240 cities by year-end 2009, with an aim to achieve over three million subscribers by then, according to the same source.
