TSMC, SVTC Form Innovation Incubation Alliance for Commercialization of Emerging Technologies
October 16, 2009
TSMC of Taiwan and SVTC Technologies, a
California-based provider of silicon technology development and
commercialization services, have formed the Innovation Incubation Alliance,
seeking to accelerate the development and commercialization of innovative
technologies, EE Times reported on October 14. The TSMC-SVTC alliance aims to help
More Than Moore customers with innovative concepts but lacking in scaling
capability move their technologies beyond incubation at the lab to mass
production. It is envisioned that by collaborating with the Innovation
Incubation Alliance, startup companies will be able to develop or commercialize
emerging technologies at SVTC and then transfer the designs and processes to
TSMC for mass production as product demand increases. SVTC currently boasts 8-
and 12-inch process development capabilities and has developed compatible R&D
processes that facilitate direct transfer to TSMC's production processes.
Earlier this month TSMC formed a similar alliance with IMEC (Interuniversity
Microelectronics Centre) of Belgium.
