Compal to Build Second Notebook PC Production Base in Kunshan, China

Taiwanese PC maker Compal announced on September 3 that the company plans to build its second notebook PC production base in Kunshan, as part of its efforts to boost notebook PC capacity in China, the Economic Daily of Taiwan reported on September 4. The additional investment is valued at US$180 million. Under the capacity expansion project, Compal will set up a R&D center and four factories in the base, with a scale similar to current operations in its first production base, in a bid to tap the burgeoning demand for notebook PCs, including low-cost models, after 2011. Further details, however, were not yet disclosed.To date, Compal already has four notebook PC facilities and two LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) assembly plants in Kunshan.
