- Chinese system integrator China Crescent
Enterprises plans to tap the African WiMAX market and has chosen China's Huawei
Technologies as it project partner, TMCnet reported on august 27. In
preparation for launching WiMAX operations in Kenya, China Crescent recently
attended the African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute WiMAX
Conference in Nairobi. First phase of China Crescent's African WiMAX project is
slated to go on stream in the first quarter of 2010.
- Chinese network solution provider ZTE has
signed a funding deal with Russian Icon Private Equity to build a 3.5GHz WiMAX
network for the Russian financier's portfolio company Ukraine High
Technologies, according to a press release by ZTE on August 26. The project
consists of three phases, and the first phase is currently underway in
Ukrainian capital city Kiev and the immediate regions. ZTE has been providing
technical support and solutions - including over 250 WiMAX base stations, 6,000
WiMAX terminal products, and core network equipment - for the WiMAX network in
Kiev, slated for completion by the fourth quarter of 2009. Ukraine High
Technologies expects to deploy a nationwide WiMAX network in Ukraine and seeks
to spread out network coverage starting from Kiev.
