China-based Lenovo Group is expected to place procurement
orders worth US$2.7 billion with Taiwanese PC manufacturers including Quanta
Computer, Compal Electronics, and Wistron, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported
on August 21, 2009. It is reported that Quanta has obtained Lenovo's netbook PC
order, and Quanta's shipment is projected to account for around 30% of Lenovo's
overall shipment volume in 2010. Meanwhile, Compal is expected to manufacture
Ideapad notebook PCs for Lenovo, while Wistron lands the order for ultra-slim
CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage) notebook PCs.
The deals were made during the third Chinese procurement
delegation organized by the AETATS (Association of Economy and Trade across
Taiwan Straits). Other notable members of the delegation include Konka Group
and Hasee Computer. It is reported that Konka will purchase flat panels and
network devices in Taiwan, while Hasee plans to procure electronic components.
