Huawei to Provide Solar-powered BTS for Grameenphone of Bangladesh

Bangladeshi Grameenphone has selected Chinese telecom solution provider Huawei Technologies to deploy solar-powered BTS (Base Transceiver Stations) for its network enhancement, according to a press release by Huawei on August 17. Grameenphone is a joint venture between Norwegian Telenor and Bangladeshi Grameen Telecom. The company is currently operating a nationwide EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) network in Bangladesh. As per the deal with Grameenphone, Huawei will deploy its fourth-generation base stations featuring a hybrid solution utilizing both solar and diesel power. This deployment project aims to provide mobile connectivity in rural regions of Bangladesh and is expected to solve problems of service interruption due to local power instability.
