Lenovo to Expand Presence in All Indian Districts by Year-end 2009

Chinese PC maker Lenovo plans to boost its market presence in India to cover 580 districts in India up from the current 350 cities by year-end 2009, the Hindu of India reported on July 15. As part of its expansion plan, Lenovo India recently has launched seven new PC models for the Indian market. In addition, the company has begun streamlining its global business and dividing markets into the emerging and developed markets. With India as the company's top priority among emerging markets, Lenovo India will continue to focus on the development of personal PCs in 2009, according to the same source. Lenovo stated that it plans to add 30 new retail stores, bring the total number to 150, while increasing its service centers from 130 to 250 in 2009. Meanwhile, Lenovo's factory in Puducherry city, India, has begun production, with an annual capacity of three million PCs.
