AUO Announces Further Information on First and Second 8.5G Plants

Taiwanese LCD TV (Liquid Crystal Display Television) panel maker AUO recently announced that the company will resume the LCD panel construction at its second 8.5G plant, Taiwan's Economic Daily News reported on June 15. Located at the Houli base of the CTSP (Central Taiwanese Science Park), AUO's second 8.5G plant is projected to churn out 12,800 glass substrates, with the construction slated for completion in 2010. Further details regarding the delivery schedule were not yet disclosed. However, the company stated that more details are set to be released in late July, 2009.

At the same time, AUO also announced its plan to boost the capacity of its first 8.5G plant from the current 10,000 to 20,000 glass substrates. The planned capacity of AUO's second plant is around 45,000-50,000 glass substrates per month. Aside from AUO, Samsung and LG own two and one 8.5G plants, respectively.
