Taiwan-based Foxconn Group has invested in US WiMAX
IC developer ApaceWave Technologies, the Commercial Times of Taiwan reported on
May 27. Headquartered in Fremont, California, ApaceWave was founded in 2006 by CyberTAN
Technology chairman and CEO Gwong-Yih Lee. CyberTan Technology, based in Hsinchu,
Taiwan, is a broadband and wireless networking equipment manufacturing unit of
Foxconn Group.
Capitalized at approximately US$37 million,
ApaceWave numbers US Venrock, Taiwan's DCM, WK Technology Fund, Fortune Venture
Investment Group, China's Huahong International, and Birch Venture Capital among
its stakeholders.
ApaceWave recently announced the availability of
its APW2050 Mobile Station SoC (System on Chip), which supports all 802.16e
mobile WiMAX Wave 2 features, including MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output)
Matrix A & B and Beamforming, according to a press release by the company
on May 26. Designed based on the 65nm process, the APW2050 has been certified
by Taiwanese WiMAX equipment provider Gemtek and Singaporean consumer
electronics device company Creative Technology. Both companies are expected to
adopt ApaceWave chipsets in their WiMAX-enabled products.
