Panasonic, Sumitomo Join Hands for OLED
May 08, 2009
Panasonic recently has revealed its plan to collaborate with Sumitomo in the development of flat display panels based on OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) technology, in a bid to expand market presence, Reuters reported on May 8. Panasonic, however, declined to reveal the names of other manufacturers. Meanwhile, the Nikkei Business Daily reported that Panasonic and Sumitomo also plan to set up a JV, whereby both parties will develop and manufacture OLED panels by 2010, mainly for use in 40-inch and larger OLED TVs. Panasonic claimed that it has no imminent plans to commercialize OLED TVs though. To date, only Sony has launched 11-inch OLED TVs commercially.
