April 17, 2009
Leading PC maker Dell plans to launch Google Android-powered Smartphones, thereby marking its foray into the increasingly competitive Smartphone market, Reuters reported on April 14. The new devices, to be manufactured by Chi Mei Communications, a subsidiary of Taiwanese Hon Hai, are scheduled to hit the Chinese market initially by the year-end of 2009, followed by the United States and Europe, according to the same source. Dell and Hon Hai were not immediately available for comment. However, a spokeswoman of Red Office, a China-based software design house, confirmed that Red Office has been developing an operating system used in Smartphones for Dell.
