April 02, 2009
Taiwanese notebook PC manufacturer Compal Electronics is scheduled to start trial production of its first notebook PC model in Vietnam in June 2009, Taiwan's Commercial Times reported on March 30. Compal is expected to follow up the trial with two more models in July or August. The company projects that, following the verification by its customers at the year-end, the new Vietnam plant will be able to commence mass production in 2010, with an estimated production capacity of approximately 1.5 million notebook PCs per month. Compal's Vietnam production base is located in Vinh Phuc Province of northern Vietnam, where Foxconn has also set up production facilities. At the same time, Compal's China production base in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, has begun operating at full capacity, with its monthly output reaching 2.2 million units in February. Overall, Compal expects its full-year shipment volume to reach 32.0 million to 35.0 million units in 2009.
