Fujitsu, NTT DoCoMo LTE Field Tests Reach Speeds of 120Mbps
March 20, 2009
Fujitsu and NTT DoCoMo recently announced that they have completed their field tests of a network using LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology, resulting in a data transmission speed of 120Mbps in an urban environment, the Nikkei Electronics Asia reported on March 17. Leveraging Fujitsu's LTE base stations, the 4x4 MIMO-based (Multiple Input, Multiple Output-based) LTE network using the 10Mhz spectrum is located in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo in Hokkaio. Following the trial test, Fujitsu and NTT DoCoMo stated that the network could achieve the data transmission speed of 240Mbps using the 20Mhz spectrum. The NTT DoCoMo-Fujitsu cooperation in the development of LTE technologies started in 2006.
