March 06, 2009
Chinese PC maker Lenovo announced on March 4 that the company will launch 15 new notebook PCs and 700 new retail stores in 320,000 villages of rural China, which is expected to cover five million households within the next three years, the Wall Street Journal Asia reported.

According to China's subsidy program for computer purchases in rural China, rural residents can receive up to 13% subsidies when buying notebook PCs from companies participating in this program. The models, which are tailor-made for the program, will be priced between 2,500 RMB (US$365.6; US$1 = 6.84 RMB) and 3,500 RMB (US$511.8) according to the same source. Additionally, Lenovo also plans to set up 7,800 affiliated outlets in China's rural regions.
