February 27, 2009
Shanghai-based LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panel maker SVA said on February 25 that it is planning to set up an 8G LCD panel production line and denies recent media reports that the company will team up with Japan's Sharp to set up a 6G joint venture, SinoCast reported. SVA is currently in talks with international companies for collaboration on the 8G line and has not reached any definite results. As for recent reports that SVA and Sharp will seek to revive a discarded plan for establishing a 6G LCD plant in Shanghai, SVA said that it has not decided on any collaboration with Sharp yet, whether on the joint venture or technology licensing. SVA plans a monthly output of 60,000 panels for its new 8G LCD line, and the company projects that more than 50% of the output will be sold to the overseas markets. In preparation for the establishment of the 8G line, SVA also expects to recruit more engineers, according to the SinoCast report.
