Acer Makes Foray into Smartphone Market

Taiwan-based PC manufacturer Acer unveiled on February 16 four own-brand Smartphones featuring voice telephony and Internet capabilities at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, therewith making its foray into the Smartphone market, Taiwan's United Daily News reported. The series of Smartphones are labeled Acer Tempo, and the models unveiled at the Mobile World Congress all run on Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system. However, the company said Google's Android system could be an option in the future, too. The first batch of four models - DX900, X960, M900 and F900 ?is slated for launch in 12 countries, mostly in Asia as well as Russia, in the first half of 2009, and a second batch of four will be rolled out later this year.
