WiMAX Development in Asia December 8-14

- Intel announced on December 11 that it will team up with WiMAX Forum India on the development of low-cost WiMAX devices catering to the demand of the Indian market, The Economic Times of India reported. Initially Intel will collaborate with Indian equipment manufacturers and providers on promoting 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz devices, enlisting the assistance of the Open Patent Alliance. Intel expects to launch WiMAX-enabled notebook PCs in India by mid-2009.
- Hong Kong-based Comba Telecom Systems Holdings unveiled a WiMAX RRU (Remote Radio Unit), Nikkei reported on December 8. The RRU is expected to be able to help reduce capital expenditures and expedite WiMAX network deployment. Furthermore, Comba's WiMAX RRU sports easy customization for integration with the BBU (Baseband Unit) and high adaptivity to different kinds of deployment environments.
