China Unicom to Trial WCDMA in Wuxi at Year-end, Plans Six More Sites

China Unicom is slated to begin WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) trials in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, on December 31, according to a SinoCast report. In addition, China Unicom plans to deploy WCDMA trial networks in six more cities, including Shanghai, Shenzhen, Foshan, Liuzhou, Zhengzhou, and Baoding. Each of the seven aforementioned cities is expected to have about 100 WCDMA base stations. It is further reported that China Unicom expects to finish WCDMA network deployment in major Chinese cities by mid-2009 and commence services in medium- to large-sized cities by year-end 2009.
