Toshiba Considers Postponement of Chip Plant Construction
November 27, 2008
Japan's Toshiba is considering the postponement of construction on two NAND flash memory chip plants in Japan, Kyodo News reported on November 26. According to Toshiba's announcement in early 2008, these two plants are to be located in Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture, and Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, and one of them will be a joint project with its business partner SanDisk. Originally scheduled to start construction in early 2009 and be completed in 2010, these two plants are expected to be put on hold due to sluggish market demand. Nevertheless, the company has not reached a final decision yet, according to a Reuters report.
