November 14, 2008
China Unicom recently declared that the company has made fully preparations to construct a WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) network within 2-3 months after the release of 3G licenses, China Business News reported quoting a spokesperson of China Unicom. During the network construction, the company would only require to upgrade wireless base stations. Meanwhile, the core network and antennas would remain intact as antennas could be shared between new and existing equipment. China Unicom began inviting WCDMA equipment bids on late October and the bids process is slated to close within a month, according to the same source. The company, however, did not reveal the timetable for the announcement of its WCDMA equipment bid results.
