November 14, 2008
Guangzhou-based Zhongxian Technology initiated on November 7 an AM-OLED (Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode) project in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China Business News reported. Reportedly the first AM-OLED production facility in China, Zhongxian's AM-OLED project involves an investment of HK$500 million (US$64.52 million; US$1=HK$7.75) and consists of three phases. Scheduled to begin production in September 2009, the first-phase facility is projected to manufacture 50 million two-inch AM-OLED panels annually. In addition, the second phase of the project is expected to see the construction of a 5G line for manufacturing sub-26-inch AM-OLED panels, and the third phase is projected to set up an 8G line manufacturing AM-OLED panels for use in large-sized TVs.

Earlier in October this year, Visionox kicked off PM-OLED (Passive Matrix OLED) production in Kunshan, Jiansu Province. Visionox's PM-OLED line is only capable of manufacturing small-sized OLED panels, though.
